TOP 11 STUDENT (PART-TIME) JOBS YOUTHS AND TEENS CAN DO FOR LITTLE MONEY
Part-time jobs in Nigeria |
I will try and make this post as short as possible, to do
that I will have to cut off all the needful reasons and benefits of having a student
job, and how in comparison to other more developed countries it is a common practice.
You must note how-ever that the idea behind getting part-time student jobs is
not to get you rich but to help keep you from being broke (although some of
this jobs can very well get you rich) and to give you a sense of
responsibility, dedication and focus, so in your priority list make sure you do
not rate your part-time job above your studies.
Now to the issue at hand, there are so many student-jobs one
can run on part time basis for little added income but the list below well tops
them all.
· PRIVATE TUTOR:
This is by far the most common of all student jobs in
Nigeria, if you are very good in a particular field, why not share you
knowledge with others by offering time to coach them, and what really stops you
from charging for this service. Yes! It is a service. You can even offer tutorial
classes for a group of people with print materials they can pay for; in
preparation for some exam.
· ARTS & CRAFTS PRODUCTION & SALES:
A lot of people are gifted artist in various areas of interest;
some can paint and draw so well people will pay for fortune for their works.
You can make money with this. A friend of yours might need a birthday gift for
his girlfriend (or the other way-around); this is where you come in. But make sure you
keep photos and records of your work for marketing. (And this goes for almost
all the other options below)
· WEB DESIGNER:
Now this is a big one, I know this because is also one of my
income trends. You can actually make a lot from designing blogs and web-site for
people and organizations alike. If you have computer and internet connection
then you are in business, you don’t even need to be a programming expert; all
you need is to master some of the free web design/blog software available online
and you are on your way.
· ACTING OR MODELLING:
If you have the gift then it was given to you for a reason,
use it.
· EVENT USHERING:
We have a lot of vendor and recruiters for this business,
and it is mostly a weekend job pays quite well, depending on the event and
region. If you are bold enough, you can also start-up a small ushering service
business with friends but this requires some degree of experience and contacts
first.

· PART-TIME PHOTOGRAPHER:
I have a close friend in high school (secondary school) that
did this in our Senior Secondary School days, and believe me when I say he was
never broke. Most took pictures at most of our school activities and functions and
it proved to be really lucrative. All you need is a digital camera and a good “how
to do” skill.
· HOUSE CLEANING SERVICES:
Study the environment you reside and find the opportunities
there, they are some people who are so busy they hardly find the time to clean
their houses, you can talk to them about rendering some of these services for
them, negotiate a method that will neither choke you or put you at risk and you
are in business. You may be surprise as to how many people will be willing to
pay for this service and whose is better and safer to offer it rather than you,
the trusted neighbor (student) that lives down the road.
· LAUNDRY SERVICES (HOUSE CALL):
If you read the above well, then I need not say anything
more.
· MC SERVICES:
If you are funny or a great coordinator then that may be a
money making skill you are not utilizing. Start up with friends and maybe offer
you service for free, help them MC their birthdays, parties or hostel events;
and before you know it, you would have built a great part-time career.
· DISC JOCKEY (DJ) SERVICE:
I am sure I need not say much here, but this is one that may
require some equipment in the long which cost money, but you can start up by
renting some of the things you may not have and build up from there. If you
have genuine love for this and are quite good at it, then look to close friends
and relatives for some who may be willing to invest in you.
· PARTY PERFORMER:
This may be singing, dancing, comic relieve etc I know a lot
of top celebrities of started off this way and grew. P-Square is a loud example;
they stared as dancers/singers in small parties but today… I REST MY CASE.
One last thing I would say though is make sure which ever
you decide to choose, either from the list or not; is something you are
passionate about, for that is one major source of motivation.
CHEERS!!!
