COBHAMS ASUQUO

Cobhams Emmanuel Asuquo is one of Nigeria's greatest talent and source of inspiration, a  musician, producer, and songwriter with record breaking history especially for an African who was born blind on the 6th of January, 1981 to parents who were at first devastated by his condition but never allowed his disability to hinder his abilities. Today, Cobhams Asuquo is the CEO and head of productions at CAMP (Cobhams Asuquo Music Productions) with top Nigerian artist credited to his name. He is also happily married and blessed with a son.

His story began when just three months after his birth, his parent confirmed their worst fears
and after visiting several hospitals across the Nigeria it was made clear to them that he had been blind from the womb and nothing could be done about it. His mother who was a clerical officer in the army, resigned to take care of her son and prepare him adequately for a future she knew had to be great. It wasn’t going to be an easy task and  her first responsibility was showing him that his blindness wasn’t a disability. Cobhams was made to do chores around the house and run errands like other children, the goal was to make him as independent and capable of achieving anything he sets his mind to do. His training came in handy when he had to move into the boarding school for his secondary education.

Cobhams’ father was an officer in the army and was hardly ever around so it was up to the mother to train and sometimes solely cater for her children. At some point, when he was seconded to Chad Republic, things became so unbearable that she had to boil and sell groundnuts to sustain the family. It was in the course of this that she noticed her son’s love for the drums and in her bid to encourage him, she got him musical toys. That was the start of a career that is now a blessing to the world.

His journey to fame wasn't an easy one but Cobham proved to the world that desire, focus and determination are stronger attribute when he dropped out of the University of Lagos as a 300 level student of Law to face his passion full time.

In 2005, Asuquo was signed on with Sony ATV London as a songwriter. After working as Head of Audio Productions at a local label, Questionmark Entertainment, he set up his own recording facility in 2006. He is now CEO/ Head of Productions of CAMP (Cobhams Asuquo Music Productions) which is currently representing himself, Bez Idakula and Stan Iyke. He was responsible for Aşa's highly acclaimed international album ASA and has been mentioned on many artists' sleeve credits as producer and writer.

His story tells us about courage and the rewards of following your heart,  I DARE YOU TO BE.
